CSIR NGRI Recruitment 2025: Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet all eligibility rules by the last date of applying online, which is June 30, 2025.

Required Qualifications:

  • Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA) (Post Code: JSA):
    Candidates must have completed 12th grade (or equivalent).
    They should also have typing skills and computer knowledge as required by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) standards — currently, typing speed should be at least 35 words per minute in English or 30 words per minute in Hindi. This equals roughly 10,500 keystrokes per hour (KDPH) for English or 9,000 KDPH for Hindi (based on 5 key presses per word).
    Note: A 3-year diploma after 10th grade from a recognized institute will be considered equal to 12th grade.
  • Junior Stenographer (Post Code: JSG):
    Candidates must have completed 12th grade (or equivalent).
    They should be trained in stenography as per DoPT rules. This includes a 10-minute dictation in English or Hindi at a speed of 80 words per minute in shorthand, followed by a transcription time of 50 minutes in English or 65 minutes in Hindi.

Age Limits (As on June 30, 2025):

  • Junior Secretariat Assistant (General): Maximum age 28 years.
  • Junior Stenographer: Maximum age 27 years.
  • Minimum age for all candidates is 18 years by the last date of application.

Age Relaxations:

Age limits may be relaxed for different categories according to the Government of India and CSIR rules:

  • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD):
    Relaxation of 10 years for the General category, 15 years for SC/ST, and 13 years for OBC candidates, if the post is suitable for the disability and the disability is at least 40%.
  • Ex-Servicemen (EXS):
    Age relaxation of 3 years after deducting the period of military service.
  • CSIR Departmental Candidates (Regular Employees):
    No age limit, provided they meet the required qualifications.
  • Widows, Divorced Women, and Women Judicially Separated (not remarried):
    Age limit up to 35 years (40 years for SC/ST candidates for reserved posts).

CSIR NGRI JSA and Stenographer Salary and Benefits 2025

Candidates who get selected for the CSIR-NGRI Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA) or Junior Stenographer posts will receive the following salary and benefits.

Pay Scale (As per 7th CPC Pay Matrix):

  • Junior Secretariat Assistant (General): Pay Level 2 – ₹19,900 to ₹63,200
  • Junior Stenographer: Pay Level 4 – ₹25,500 to ₹81,100

Approximate Monthly Salary (Including HRA for Class ‘X’ City):

  • Junior Secretariat Assistant: Around ₹38,907 per month
  • Junior Stenographer: Around ₹52,755 per month

Other Benefits:

  • All central government allowances such as Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Transport Allowance (TA) will be provided as per CSIR rules.
  • If government housing is given, then the candidate will not get HRA.
  • Medical expenses will be reimbursed as per rules.
  • Leave Travel Concession (LTC) and Children’s Education Allowance are also applicable.
  • Pension will be provided under the National Pension System (NPS).
  • There will be opportunities for promotions under the CSIR Recruitment and Promotion Rules, 2020.

CSIR NGRI Selection Process 2025

The selection process is different for each post.

For Junior Secretariat Assistant (Post Code: JSA)

1. Screening Process:
Candidates who meet the eligibility conditions will be shortlisted by a screening committee.

2. Typing Test:
A qualifying typing test will be held on a computer. Candidates must type:

  • English: 35 words per minute (10500 Key Depressions per Hour)
  • Hindi: 30 words per minute (9000 Key Depressions per Hour)
  • Duration: 10 minutes

3. Written Test:
There will be two papers in the written exam:

Paper I – Mental Ability Test

  • Number of Questions: 100
  • Total Marks: 200 (2 marks per correct answer)
  • Time: 90 minutes
  • No negative marking
  • This paper is qualifying only. Marks will not be counted for the merit list.
  • Topics: Reasoning, Logical Thinking, Basic Mathematics, Problem Solving, and similar topics.

Paper II – General Awareness and English Language

  • Time: 60 minutes
  • General Awareness: 50 questions, 150 marks
  • English Language: 50 questions, 150 marks
  • One mark will be deducted for each wrong answer (only in Paper II)
  • The questions will be in English and Hindi, except for the English section.

Only those who get the minimum qualifying marks in Paper I will have their Paper II evaluated.
The final merit list will be based on Paper II marks for those who also pass the typing test.

For Junior Stenographer (Post Code: JSG)

1. Screening Process:
Eligible candidates will be shortlisted based on their applications.

2. Stenography Skill Test:
This is a qualifying test. Candidates must choose between English or Hindi.

  • Dictation will be for 10 minutes at 80 words per minute.
  • Transcription Time:
    • English: 50 minutes (70 minutes for candidates using scribes)
    • Hindi: 65 minutes (90 minutes for candidates using scribes)

3. Written Exam (One Paper with Three Sections):

  • Total Questions: 200
  • Time: 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes for scribes)
  • Level of Questions: 12th standard
  • Medium: English and Hindi (English section will be in English only)

Sections:

  • Part I – General Intelligence and Reasoning: 50 questions, 50 marks
  • Part II – General Awareness: 50 questions, 50 marks
  • Part III – English Language and Comprehension: 100 questions, 100 marks

There is negative marking: 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.
Only candidates who qualify in the Stenography test will be considered for the final merit list, which will be based on the written exam.

Note: CSIR-NGRI will decide the order of the skill test and written exam. Details will be announced on the official website. The exam will be conducted only in Hyderabad.
